Unofficial Fan Website for Evanescence A meeting at a youth camp in Arkansas led to the beginning of the Grammy Award winning rock band Evanescence. The duo's meeting led to the formation of the rock band "Evanescence". Now former lead guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody heard singer, songwriter, and pianist Amy Lee playing Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love( But I Won't Do That)" on the piano while at the camp near Little Rock. Going through a few names such as Stricken and Childish Intentions, the band decided on Evanescence. Originally, Evanescence was considered to be part of the new Christian rock scene, even being promoted in Christian stores for a short while, however, the band clarified things by saying they did not want to be considered a Christian band. Hodges, in fact, is said to have quit the band over the Christianity topic. It means "to fade away or dissipate like vapor, and Lee loved the name because it sounded dark and mysterious. Moody did say that both him and Lee are Christians, but the band is not a Christian band, stating that they write about a number of things, their experiences in life. The two were joined by keyboardist David Hodges, drummer Rocky Gray, guitarist John LeCompte, and bassist William Boyd to round out the band.
Evanescence released their first full length demo cd, "Origin" in 2000, but the work is relatively unknown. They also released two EP's, the self titled "Evanescence" in 1998 and the Sound Asleep EP (also known as the Whisper EP) in 1999, before cutting On October 22, 2003, Moody suddenly left the group in the middle of it's European tour, admitting later that he had a drug and alcohol problem instead of the reported "creative differences". At the time, "Fallen" became one of only eight albums in history to spend a full year in the Billboard Top 50. The album stayed 43 weeks in the Billboard Top 10 and has sold over 14 million copies worldwide earning 6x platinum status. Evanescence's major label debut single "Bring Me to Life", which features guest vocals from Paul McCoy of 12 Stones, was a global hit for the band and reached #5 on the American Billboard Hot 100. and #9 in the U.K. "Bring Me to Life" garnered recognition for the band at the Grammy Awards of 2004, where the band was given the Best Hard Rock Performance award and named Best New Artist. It also provided Evanescence with their first (and so far only) UK #1, where it stayed for five weeks from June-July 2003. Both songs were on the movie "Daredevil's" soundtrack, rocketing both songs into widespread popularity and cementing Evanescence within the music scene. The equally popular "My Immortal" peaked at #7 in the U.S. The two other singles off Fallen include "Going Under" and "Everybody's Fool", both of which include a music video.
In 2004 Terry Balsamo replaced Moody, and Evanescence's new lineup released a DVD/CD compilation entitled "Anywhere but Home". Also on the CD are the songs "Breathe No More" and "Farther Away". Evanescence is currently working on their second album, titled The Open Door, due for release in the USA on October 3, 2006. The DVD is their live-from-Paris show with several behind-the-scenes features, including shots of the band backstage,
